MIGRANTS IN TRANSIT IN ROME: DOCTORS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS ITALY (MEDU) AND THE BAOBAB EXPERIENCE CALL ON INSTITUTIONS AND CITIZENS TO SUPPORT HUMANITARIAN AND HEALTH PROTECTION.

With winter approaching, hundreds of migrants in transit- many of them minors- are sleeping out in the open, on the sidewalks, asphalt, under overpasses, in precarious conditions with grave risks to their safety and health. It is a an unsustainable situation. Not to intervene would be a negligence of our duty. Doctors for Human Rights Italy is present this morning with their mobile clinic in the Tiburtina Station area. Along with volunteers from the Baobab Experience, MEDU has distributed tents to provide at least some minimal refuge from the weather. It is necessary to create a temporary humanitarian and health response while we wait for the Hub promised by the City of Rome. We are asking for collaboration from the institutions and citizens.
